A Small Practice of Paying Attention

Attention is a practice we can make easier through the environments we build.

Attention is not a personality trait. It is a practice, and like any practice it can be made easier by the environments we build.

Begin with one ordinary thing

Choose one daily moment and give it your full presence. The first sip of coffee. The walk between rooms. The opening sentence of a book. Small acts of attention create a durable habit of noticing.

  • Remove one distraction
  • Name what matters
  • Return without judgment

Make attention visible

When a space makes the important thing obvious, focus stops feeling like a personal struggle and starts feeling like a shared design decision.

Notice

Start by observing what pulls your attention away.

Choose

Decide what deserves your attention before the day decides for you.

Questions, answered.

How long should this practice take?

Begin with two quiet minutes. Consistency matters more than duration.

One last thing

Keep noticing.

The next useful idea may already be in front of you.
